Counselling
I came to therapeutic work through movement, and through my own journey with healing. Two decades as a dancer taught me that much of what we carry lives in the body well before we have words for it, and my own path through difficulty taught me both what it means to feel stuck and what it can take to move through it. Those two threads shape how I practise as a Registered Clinical Counsellor, where the foundation is talk therapy and the relationship we build together, and where I also draw on the wisdom of the body so that the work is not only insightful but genuinely felt.
I work with adults navigating a wide range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, questions of gender and sexual identity, and the larger crossroads where an important decision is waiting. My aim, whatever you bring, is a space where you feel safe enough to explore, take up room, and be yourself, and where the quality of connection between us can become one of the vehicles for change rather than only its backdrop.
The way I practise is integrative and paced to you, grounded in attachment-based and person-centred foundations and shaped by Internal Family Systems and by polyvagal-informed approaches to movement and nervous system regulation. I try to hold the emotional, relational, and physical dimensions of your experience together rather than treating them as separate.
Alongside individual sessions, I offer small therapy groups, which take many shapes, from single-session workshops on themes such as self-esteem, boundaries, or healing from trauma, to weekend intensives and multi-week series. I have a particular love for working with artist collectives, dance companies, and other creative communities, where the group itself becomes part of the work.
I see clients in Royston and throughout the Comox Valley, and online across British Columbia, through my counselling practice, Roy Creek Psychotherapy. You can read more about my training and approach, and book a session or a free consultation, through my bio at Roy Creek Psychotherapy.
